Please do not post the same thing multiple times. The board software automatically flags certain posts as needing moderator attention. This happens the most often for new users. I'm pretty sure this is made clear at the time you attempt to post. Posting the same thing over and over again just makes that many more posts the moderators have to weed through later. This makes us sad. Don't make us sad. If your post/thread doesn't appear, just wait a while. Don't post it again. If it hasn't shown up by the next day, then you can try again. I normally go through posts in the mornings, and try to check a few times throughout the day, but I'm not here 24/7. There will typically be a significant delay before posts are approved. Just be patient.
Release dates no longer work, it now says Update [insert date here]
Looks like release dates will now officially be the day that your app is first released. All updates will be called Updated at and dont' bump you up to the top anymore. LAME! Perhaps they'll have a release date selection now?
Mine still says "Availability Date" in iTunesConnect. My update went live this morning and i've just changed the date to today. I'm hoping it will show in the next few hours. (i'll post back).
One thing that looks weird is in the UK Store (Utilities). The first App on the list is Cryptocus LE but the release date is 21st December 2009. Does this mean it could be No1 on the list for the next 5 or 6 weeks??? I thought Apps with a date in the future didn't even show up.
BUZZER! : iTunes Library Music Quiz (1 or 2 Player)
Aw, that's a real shame. I hate it when Apple tries to faithfully represent things.
I developers will have to actually write something someone wants instead gaming the system.
No need to be a smart ***, and the system will just be gamed in a different way now.
Ex: Take content in app 1, repackage it in app 2, rinse repeat. Bikini Babes, Amazing Bikini Babes, Hot Bikini Babes!!!... Red Reversi, Orange Reversi, Blue Reversi!
Also with updates not showing, new apps will also last even longer on the new list, making that incentive even stronger to flood it.
And though this will help stop developers giving "fake" updates, there will also be less incentive to give real updates.
Assuming of course that this is intentional, and not just another bug from Apple making some changes.
I would be okay-ish with this change if they at least added a new sort option based on the Updated date. Otherwise if your 1.0 version doesn't end up in a Top 100 list at release you can forget about ever getting any decent exposure in the App Store.
I do understand this change will combat frivolous updates that were posted just to bump an app. However, with 100,000+ apps in the store already, taking away promotion opportunities also hurts legitimate developers.

Ya know, doing updates to gain visibility is simple business. Every product in the world does it. Hell, apple treats releasing a new color iPod as a earth shattering event.
The difference is that apple will not let you gain visibility for free updates any more. I had an app that was often in the top 100 of education (#32 once) and would stick there for 3-4 weeks and slowly drift out. Instead of offering free updates and gaining good visibility and increased sales, I will now abandon current users with each update and make them pay for it, if they want it.
So basically I will treat my customers like crap or skip the trip to disney world with my kids this year. Which would you choose?

Wow you are missing the point completely. Companies that sell normal apps in the real market place and do updates do their own PR and ads in magazines and publications. They do their own leg work to be seen.
You are crying about something you were getting for free and should not have. And you are crying about something that has made everyones life easier. Imagine if you had to do everything your self. The app store is better than nothing and nothing is what you had before they came along. God forbid people had to do their own work.
Imagine having to sell, run your own billing, have your own processing, creating your own security for anti piracy (which is still a work in progress i know). And imagine the millions of other things you had to do yourself before the app store came along. Grow up. And putting you kids into the conversation only shows that you are dependent on the store. Which you should not be dependent on anyone but your self.

Only an idiot / foolish developer, such as you, would do such a thing.
Listen up kid, first off people have already been doing this since the app store opened... Second, people will just avoid your apps because they know you are just trying to scam the system.
What I want apple to do next is restrict new releases to 1 a month, this will put an end to tools like you.

Where did I infer anywhere that I personally was going to do that? Your name calling is petty and immature.
I was talking about the positives and minuses of this system, and just because "people have already been doing doing this since the app store opened" doesn't meant it won't happen more.

why not? people have been even been praised for putting wikipedia into a thumb drive on /. (slashdot dot com for those newbies). There is a market for data offline. like ebooks. Wouldn't it be annoying to have to be connected in over to finish that last chapter of twilight?

I agree let's keep this civil. Too many discussions on this board turn to cocky flamewars and lack discussion because of heated remarks.
I don't believe they had to take away something positive (a nice incentive to update your apps) to fix this problem... and the system can still be "gamed" anyway! There are other ways they could of "fixed" the system.
In my opinion, they should have changed to a system where there are two updates available, one for bugs and one for updates. -The one for bugs will go through the system a bit faster, but would not put you on top of the release list. A priority system (minor bug, severe bug...) could be added to this system later on. -The one for updates will put you on the top of the release list, but the reviewer will check your "what's updated" comments. If the update is considered "lacking" (ex: upgraded 2 sprites), it will be approved as a bug fix instead.
Developers should also be "marked" by Apple as dishonest if they see a trend in duplicated apps or attempts at fake upgrades. The mark could stop your apps from not hitting the new release list or limit the number of apps you can add. Once you're marked it could last for 6 months or something and it would need to give developers a warning first.
This would help get bug fixes to broken apps faster, would keep an incentive to constantly put meaningful updates in your apps, and would help keep developers honest.
The downside is that it would be more work for Apple.
Just noticed this when I posted the latest update of my app. My question is how is it that other apps seem to be squeezing through. Here is an example with a release date of today, but obviously it's not new (because it has reviews from 2008): I noticed this app before because it shows up in the recently released list and had a release date about 2 days earlier the last time i looked at the list. Could be bugs? I had previously noticed items in the store with a release date of dec 31, 2009 (which are now gone).

The App Store is going nuts again. The most recent apps listed in the newly released section of one catgory just got to the top after having been there one week ago. They magically are at the top less than one week later. Those are some lucky devs.
I noticed that in the games --> trivia section as well... going to submit an app today, and cross my fingers that Apple can actually fix this within the next two weeks.
I already contacted Apple, since I thought there was something wrong. But it seems it's just another trick to make a developer's life miserable, as we're used from Apple...
Anyway, I'm just going to start building new Apps, the current ones need maintenance but since I'm not getting anything in return for an update, I won't be providing updates anymore.
I contacted them again. I have a brand new app that went live a day ago and still is not appearing in itunes. Also there appears to be ZERO new apps in education since Nov 15th.
