New Developer account - app rejected

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum and IOS development. I recently signed up as an IOS developer and completed my first app. Now I've just received a rejection notice from apple for my iphone app. Assuming the appeal also get rejected what can I do? Have I just wasted a couple month of work and $100 enrollment fee? Any one know if i can get my money back.

I'm very disappointed as I've wasted so much time. Does anyone know if there is a way to get pre-approved for an app? I have other ideas for apps but I really do not want to put in the effort just to have my app rejected again.

Thanks for your comments.

What was the app? What reason did they give for it being rejected?

Depends on what you were expecting to get out of it. If it was just that one app and you're trying to take a stab at making a few quick bucks, then probably yes. If you're looking to be serious about being a developer, then you're just getting started.

I'm a software developer who spent some evening/weekends working on an app. Realistically, I hope to make a few hundred or thousands of dollars a year. No, I'm not quitting my day job.

But let's say I'm a serious developer. I spend 6 months working on an app and then Apple decides to reject. Is there no way to get a conditional pre-approval so I don't waste my time?

I guess I should cut my losses at this point and say that $100 went to 6 months of learning about IOS development. At least I have something new to put on my resume.

You know, you could always try and resolve the problem. Fix the problem that made it get rejected? Thats what I do all the time.. FIX it until approved. 6 months is alot. Hopefully apple didnt reject your app because they think it was crap..

With every rejection notice there is very specific reason for rejection provided by Apple.

It can be crash during startup, violation of UI-guidelines and other easy-to-fix reasons. Also there is a resolution center where you can write back to review team.

    So, just don't panic.

P.S. rejection of app because it's crap is actually one of the best things to happen: Apple knows that some bad apps wouldn't make even $10, so it's better to cut it short, rather wasting more time

If you consider all the time "wasted" making an app if it's not approved, I don't think this is the right business for you. There is a lot of valuable skills to be learned along the way. Why would you spend so much time on something that you don't enjoy if you only expect to make maybe one thousand dollars?

If you first reaction is to give up rather than to address the specific reasons for the rejection, then you did, in fact, waste 6 months.

To answer your specific question, no there is no pre-approval mechanism. Your best bet is to follow Apple's guidelines and to write good app. Apple is not un-reasonable, and I'm sure they provided you with a reason for their rejection.

When all is said and done, failure is just a lesson you didn't realize you learned.

This guy fails to tell us the reason behind the rejection as so many of you asked. Are you seriously not reading our comments?

Or was the reason behind your rejection something along the lines of "Inappropriate sexual content" or something like that? People these days have all types of dumb ideas.

As for your "wasted" time. Dont stress, you're obviously not serious about IOS development. I spent 8 months coding a game that failed, but I gained something far more valuable then money = knowladge how to make iphone apps. Be happy you are one of the few that know how... NOT fully since you got rejected so obviously you dont know what you're doing properly but still.. closer then a lot of other people

Before you embarked on 6 months of coding you should've spent 60 minutes reading the Apple guidelines...
  • KarlJayKarlJay Posts: 279Registered Users
First off Apple has a long set of rules, your app broke one or more of those rules. Either you didn't read or didn't understand the rules.

If you've read most of these posts, you've probably spent more time and effort than it would be to just read and post the rule that was broken and get on with fixing it.

You still have 6 months left to fix it or write another app.

This is starting to smell like a troll, because you've been asked why it failed and haven't answered...

LOL, first post here and I've been accused of being a troll... actually I haven't answered because I have been sleeping :)

The rejection was because of content, I'm not going to say what the exact problem is because I am still hopeful that my android version will be accepted. Yes, I read the guidelines and felt 90% sure that it would not be rejected.

In any case, the only reason I say my time was wasted is because I could have learned the APIs while working on a different app. I do understand that learning these APIs are very useful and have had fun doing so, but after 6 month of work I still do not have an app to sell.

Thanks everyone for sharing your opinions.

Out of curiosity, which of the guidelines was it? They usually refer to an exact section in the rejection email.

Erm, there's no review process for Android! Bang it in, job done.

I'm don't know but Mark says there's no review process for Android, so I'll go with that. But even if there was, what do you gain by not saying what the problem was? It's not like supposed Android reviewers are reading this forum and will say "Oh look, this guys app was rejected by Apple, we're going to reject it too then."

I had my s3x app rejected....it was not raunchy, just a fun dice kind of game, but they gave me a hint, they said they wont accept any more flashlight, fart or s3x apps, but they would accept it, if it was inside another app....basically I have to make another app and then incorporate this into it, as a small section...I am busy on another 9 apps at the moment.hey ho, it is their rule and we try to play the game as best we can. If we succeed and get through to the store we have other more important worries, they are timing our release dates, advertising our apps etc...

Sorry, that was my fault. I didn't read the date/time stamps and didn't realize these posts were so close together.

I'd look for a way to change the content and be upbeat about having learned the process / api etc...

Isn't there an option to release to the jailbroken market?
  • TylerBetableTylerBetable Posts: 29Registered Users
Whoa whoa whoa guys, slow down. Let's back up for a second. Weez, for your sake:

DONT try to release it on the jailbroken app store

DONT give up and never release an iOS app again

DO list the specific reason for your rejection in this thread so we can help you understand what it means and how to fix it

DO strive to build a high quality app that Apple will reject. As baja_yu said, Apple is famous for rejecting apps that people put 6 months or more into. If you put 2 months into your app and it got rejected, why not add a level of polish and try again?

DO take the feedback here seriously. This is not a "oh man Apple is so unfair" problem, it looks like you just need to touch up your app
Hey, I'm Tyler and I do marketing for Betable - a platform that lets game developers legally integrate real-money betting into their games.

I think if weez just post which guideline that the reviewer felt is the reason for your app rejection, we'd be having a better discussion.

    So weez, your cue.

Looks like it's because of content. No further details, but I think we have the general idea.

I'm always amazed to read guys working on so many apps at the same time, did you outsource all of that ? Or are you doing all that just by yourself...
