    For the same reason updating an app that has been updated several times a year is met with a 4.3 or similar when just adding something or a compatibility update, this is Apple remember :wink:

    You could say that about any feature you add, but I think a consent screen is on the safer side.

    When the ePrivacy Regulation comes in things will change again anyway. I am hoping this will move the onus for consent to the operating system, so apps can then just check whether the user has opted out of personalised ads by checking the relevant iOS setting.

    That is true, but right now the suggested method is;

    Offer user the following as a prompt;

    1) Personalized Ads
    2) Non-Personlized Ads

    - OK thats fine, BUT some have said;

    1) Personalized Ads
    2) Non-Personlized Ads
    3) Paid version (link to paid version of app)

    Well, we know for sure 3) won't work with Apple as they don't allow/want you to have a free and paid version, so 3) will work for Google apps, not for Apple.

    (3) would more commonly refer to an IAP to remove the ads, which is fine by everyone
