Please do not post the same thing multiple times. The board software automatically flags certain posts as needing moderator attention. This happens the most often for new users. I'm pretty sure this is made clear at the time you attempt to post. Posting the same thing over and over again just makes that many more posts the moderators have to weed through later. This makes us sad. Don't make us sad. If your post/thread doesn't appear, just wait a while. Don't post it again. If it hasn't shown up by the next day, then you can try again. I normally go through posts in the mornings, and try to check a few times throughout the day, but I'm not here 24/7. There will typically be a significant delay before posts are approved. Just be patient.
I just spent $2000 on a combo print/online ad campaign with Card Player magazine to promote my app: Poker track Pro. The issue comes out May 9th.
My app is currently selling about 1 app/day at 8.99 and i'm hoping to see sales of 3-5/day (maybe more) for the month the ad is running.
I'll post the results here if anyone wants to know.

Just to put it in context we were in the Sunday Times a couple of months ago, not as an advert but in a quite prominent news, with icon, link, good review etc... It gave us 250 copies in that territory that day and exponentially decreased to what it was before within 5 days.
Now, that newspaper has got 1M copies in circulation every sunday. That means that if I wanted to break even I would have spent about $200 dollars.
2 main things to take into account:
1) it was an article not an ad that it will be skipped so your "interest rate" will be drastically cut. 2) 1M copies but not targeted, so you are better off here.
I'll be glad if you break even but with your app price so steep it's tough. Put it at 2.99 or something like that, you'll have some remote chance!
It might be worth considering a sale of your app during the promotion. I understand your heaitation in lowering the price, but this would be an ideal time to test the water.
Think his app price isn't really bad. I'm a poker player/member of different poker communities and poker players aren't like the regular buyers. Tracking software (which does it automatically for online poker) costs $80-$90, so his price for an iPhone tool that helps you with it aint that bad.

Years ago (pre-iPhone) I had a half page ad in the Radio Times Christmas edition (which was a BIG deal in the UK back then) - cost £10,000 to put in, made back £650.

Currently there are only 2 major poker tracking apps available and they sell for $9.99 and $12.99. They are both selling very well and mine is about 10 times better than either of those (imho).

Why is he insane? The guy who sells App Store - TuneLab Piano Tuner sells quite a few copies per month, but it's hundreds of pounds? I doubt he'll ever lower the price, because his app is a niche app that people WANT. If people are prepared to pay it, let them.
There's a sweet spot for every app. Just saying 'you're insane, go back to your sandbox' is pretty rude tbh, and especially so coming from someone who didn't exactly set the world alight with their own app, eh?!

TBH in my limited experience niche apps sell better at higher price points. The people buying them often see .99 or 1.99 as cheap. Earlier in the post he states that the other apps are 9.99 and 12.99 (I wouldnt be suprised if the 12.99 is selling the best) for a number of reasons regaurdless of how good it is compared to the others.
If you have an app that no one else offers and have a limited consumers why would you sell it for .99 or 1.99....
agreed, niche apps are where the real money is. you can't just lump all apps together on mobile just like you can't lump a $699 photoshop with a $5 desktop app. If you have something that a set of users want and there are no other options, you can charge a LOT more than .99c

Jan, I have repeatedly emailed you to ask for the commented version of the code that I bought off you, but you have chosen to ignore me.
You said you send it in 2 weeks time - that was months ago now.
I think Starbucks did a little bit more than only charging more, they build a brand and a whole business around it which justified their higher price.
It was a joke, but there's a grain of truth to it. They built their brand and their whole business largely around charging more. Lots of people think their coffee sucks. And the milkshake sales came after they had built up the company.
