[iTunes connect & App store on iPad) incorrect ratings?

Hi everyone,

This is really weird, I have an app, and in iTunes connect's Customer Reviews menu, there is only 1 rating (only in US) which is 5 stars and says Really good you should get this app...

But in the app store link, the app has 2.5 stars. I cannot find where it came from. The app has 40 ratings in total. But they are not listed in iTunes connect. Also, in iTunes on Windows, the ratings aren't even visible because there are too less of them.

The sales of the app also doesn't look like a 2.5 star app. (almost 50-90 new users a day)

Can anyone clarify this please? Thanks!

Edit: Maybe handy to add: the 2.5 stars are only visible when I "click" on the icon in the app store (not in the list after a search, under the name of the app)
Edit 2: Here is the link to the app: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/magic-mosaic-lite/id478084179?l=nl&ls=1&mt=8
It is NOT meant for advertising, but only for showing the problem, and make the question more clear.

Rating are broken. They don't update much, they're inaccurate (we need separate ratings for iPad/iPhone versions, and different versions of the App), and overall nobody even rates Apps. You can have 150 PAID downloads a day and be lucky to get 1 rating for every 300 downloads.

In my experience, the only people who rate Apps are the people who have problems with the App, not the people that are happy with it.

Hmm thanks, but shouldn't there be any comments if users are having problems? This happens with our other apps.
I know ratings update slowly, but this is or completely out of sync with iTunes connect, or I have ratings from another app or something. The US rating is also not visible on the US app store page, but it is in iTunes connect.

It depends what category your app is in but don't forget the fake ratings from competing apps. We get plenty of totally nonsensical ratings with absolutely no relevant comment on the app itself.

Thanks, that could be it. Those ratings appeared suddenly without any comment. Catergory is photograph by the way. Thanks for the information!

You can leave a rating without leaving a comment, by the way.

Yeah I know, but in my experience it doesn't happen a lot that users with problems with an app leave just one star without saying what they don't like / doesn't work.

50-90 users... are you talking about active users or just downloads? Does your application very actively invite users to rate it? I have a feeling that when prompted to rate an app, users then are more likely to just give it stars rating without writing a comment.

I aget far more (negative) ratings on free apps than their paid equivalents. Luckily Apple is reasonably cooperative about removing the most idiotic ones such as complaining that the app always crashes (when I see no crash reports).

    I am talking about downloads.
And I do not invite users to rate at all, I thought about this one, but in my opinion it looks a little unattractive.

Are star-only ratings (without comments) invisible in iTunes connect?

Yes that's normal. I only see raftings with comments in iTunes connect.

I think that also depends on how many turkish apps are registered at app anny. For example, if there are 10.000 turkish apps on the App Store, and only 5000 of them are on AppAnny. The chance is big that your's wil be higher ranked at AppAnny than the app store.
