Please do not post the same thing multiple times. The board software automatically flags certain posts as needing moderator attention. This happens the most often for new users. I'm pretty sure this is made clear at the time you attempt to post. Posting the same thing over and over again just makes that many more posts the moderators have to weed through later. This makes us sad. Don't make us sad. If your post/thread doesn't appear, just wait a while. Don't post it again. If it hasn't shown up by the next day, then you can try again. I normally go through posts in the mornings, and try to check a few times throughout the day, but I'm not here 24/7. There will typically be a significant delay before posts are approved. Just be patient.
Effect Of Changing Primary Category During Update?
My app Video FX+ has its primary category as Entertainment, I am thinking of changing it to the Video & Photography category. Does anyone know what effect this may have on the rankings?
I think that could be different for your app but I changed the category of my shopping list app from "productivity" to "utility" (because nearly every other shopping list app has that category and they were ranked higher than mine) and my ranking and sales went down (ranking 100 in productivity to 800 in utility and 10 sales a day to 1 sale a day :mad: ) So I am going to change it back and hope the best :rolleyes:
At the minute I am not really ranked very high on the entertainment section. Buy the volume of apps in the photo & video section is much lower. I have a major update due any day now that enables in-app purchases and increases the social interaction within the app.
under these circumstances you could try it. if it'll get worse you could simply switch back and say "minor bug fixes" ;) or add a "restore in app purchases button" (if you haven't done that yet) because that's extremely easy to implement.
When you release the update with a new category, your ranking in your original one is immediately lost. And the old download data isn't brought back with your newer category. Which means, like a new release, you'll need to work on the number of downloads to get ranked again.
Regarding the impact of sales, I think it'll only matter if you ranked in top 10 or 20 in a particular category. If not, and you are only featured in what's hot or such, it may not affect as much.
Plus, I found the "secondary category" field to be ignored. Because the time I did this, I only switched the primary and secondary category. So you can't be ranked by secondary category.

Thanks for the input, I am 50/50 with regards to changing the category, think I will though because I think it makes more sense for a video app to be in the video category.
