Please do not post the same thing multiple times. The board software automatically flags certain posts as needing moderator attention. This happens the most often for new users. I'm pretty sure this is made clear at the time you attempt to post. Posting the same thing over and over again just makes that many more posts the moderators have to weed through later. This makes us sad. Don't make us sad. If your post/thread doesn't appear, just wait a while. Don't post it again. If it hasn't shown up by the next day, then you can try again. I normally go through posts in the mornings, and try to check a few times throughout the day, but I'm not here 24/7. There will typically be a significant delay before posts are approved. Just be patient.
Mojang/Notch accuse creators of 'Junk Jack' of copyright infringement
It seems they are taking issue with the fact they have "Minecraft" as a keyword. Has anyone else encountered this kind of problem? Surely it is perfectly acceptable to put similar game names in the keywords section to help with discoverability. Considering how obviously different Junk Jack and Minecraft are this seems like nothing more than anti-competitive behaviour on Mojang's part.
I'd say using anothers trademark/unique name in their marketing is a case of infringement, keywords may be hidden away but you're piggy backing off of the brand they have spent effort in building.
It shows up in a search. Not much point using it otherwise!
You can't assert that they're using X or Y keywords simply by search rating, unless you have inside knowledge of Apple's ranking algorithm. This is especially true given they completely overhauled it the other day.

A search term needs to match title, developer name or occur in keywords for an app to be returned in a search result. If you know better you ought to contact their lawyers and let them know! I suspect they looked into it beforehand in a bit more detail than you?
Overhaul, Im not so sure. People are noticing sporadic differences, whether that represents the conclusion of a complete redesign of search is some way from being determined I think.

I suspect they didn't look into it any further than "the game shows up for 'Minecraft'" before firing off the letters. Lawyers aren't paid to investigate they're paid to make threats left right and center. Given Apple uses a '5 days to prove you're innocent before we remove the app' method of dealing with copyright disputes, it's a very effective way of removing competitors, as many people on this forum will attest to.
I had Minecraft as a keyword for one of my apps. I was contacted and asked to revise my app to make it more clear that it was not officially related to Minecraft.
I had another apps name in one of my keywords, and after seeing this thread I double checked the trademark site (uspto.gov) and apparently the app name was trademarked just a week ago! Removed the app from sale today.
So would it be likely for me to be in trouble over this? And just wondering, what kind of penalty would something like this have - say your app made $1000 in the week that it had a trademarked keyword...
The app that I had the name of in my keyword was free btw, no iap or anything. I was selling for $0.99
Keywords Field Use keywords to help users search the App Store effectively, keeping in mind that your app is searchable by application name, company name, and keywords. Make sure you choose keywords carefully. After you submit them, you may change them only when you update your binary or when your application status is Rejected or Developer Rejected. Enter one or more keywords that describe your app. Keywords can be single words or phrases. The text field is limited to 100 characters and must be more than 2 characters. For best results, separate multiple keywords with commas. Keywords must be related to your application content and cannot contain offensive or trademarked terms. You may not use other app names or company names as keywords. Keywords can be single words or phrases. Important If you enter a keyword that is trademarked or that references another app’s name or company name, your app may be removed from the App Store.
Using minecraft clearly breaks that and you can't use TM terms like I said

There is a $300,000 penalty with 3 years at a minimum security facility if convicted.
Lol. Just joking. You're fine. In trademark cases usually it's too expensive to do anything or prove anything and so long as you've backed down from using the questionable marks don't worry about it (and don't do it again).

However sometimes two innocent words can make a TM , but normally so unrelated to your app it not worth worrying about.

0 • Off Topic Insightful Disagree Dislike Like AwesomeThere are fair uses of registered trade marks that are completely legal and even Apple doesn't f*** with.
For example: "Checkout our awesome blah blah game, it's 1000 times better than Minecraft".
