Please do not post the same thing multiple times. The board software automatically flags certain posts as needing moderator attention. This happens the most often for new users. I'm pretty sure this is made clear at the time you attempt to post. Posting the same thing over and over again just makes that many more posts the moderators have to weed through later. This makes us sad. Don't make us sad. If your post/thread doesn't appear, just wait a while. Don't post it again. If it hasn't shown up by the next day, then you can try again. I normally go through posts in the mornings, and try to check a few times throughout the day, but I'm not here 24/7. There will typically be a significant delay before posts are approved. Just be patient.

Chart ranking plummets through the night

I've noticed that, essentially on a daily basis, my app climbs roughly 20 places in the US chart only to absolutely plummet during the hours Americans are asleep. Obviously people aren't buying it during the night, but surely none of the other apps are being bought either... the ranking should stay level. The only thing I can think of is that the other apps are older than mine and have thereby built up a kind of "reputation" that the ranking algorithm takes into account. Anyone have any insight into this phenomenon?

I heard that the ranking algorithm takes into account your downloads over a number of days. If somehow the the timeframe shifts for your app during the night, it would drop, while during the day the timeframe might shift back to normal and your ranking would increase.

Just a thought, I have no idea if that's really how it works.

This is the same for pretty much all our games.

I do expect the demand for different types of apps changes throughout the course of the day, so I just chalk this down to demand for different types of apps being downloaded late at night and early in the morning e.g. sleep assist apps, exercise apps, breakfast recipe apps, news apps, TV/movie reference apps etc. If there are different types of apps being downloaded in the early hours, then relative demand for "regular" apps will be down during that time and rankings will drop only to bounce back during the day.

Have done no reference to back that up, but always seemed a safe assumption.

The ranking gets reset every day at midnight PST. I guess this is required due to the way the algorithm works, being biased towards downloads on current day, then last two days and so on.
