Please do not post the same thing multiple times. The board software automatically flags certain posts as needing moderator attention. This happens the most often for new users. I'm pretty sure this is made clear at the time you attempt to post. Posting the same thing over and over again just makes that many more posts the moderators have to weed through later. This makes us sad. Don't make us sad. If your post/thread doesn't appear, just wait a while. Don't post it again. If it hasn't shown up by the next day, then you can try again. I normally go through posts in the mornings, and try to check a few times throughout the day, but I'm not here 24/7. There will typically be a significant delay before posts are approved. Just be patient.

Does anyone think that Taylor is just another BSer/scammer looking to advertise his stuff on these forums? Do you think he is intentionally misleading people with his writing to create a compelling story?
  • taylor202taylor202 Posts: 390Registered Users
Not at all the case. I have over 300 posts on here. Do your home work before making the claims
  • panzeritipanzeriti Posts: 441Registered Users
I didn't make any claims; I only asked a couple of questions. Also, having over 300 posts or even 10,000 posts doesn't really prove a thing. Just sayin.
  • taylor202taylor202 Posts: 390Registered Users
It actually does. I don't think myself or anyone else would be posting 300+ times advertising their own apps and scamming people just saying.

He is absolutely trying to scam people saying how his book all mighty and powerful. I believe maybe 5-10% of the stories in the book are actually his own and the rest he read about online from others.
We have no reason to believe you have any credit and that's the problem, the only real examples you give are apps that are complete flops and are really badly designed. When people read book and the author tells them of his great success making 200K...the reader wants to know what made him that success he doesn't care if you're "advertising" your app. Not telling the readers about your good apps makes you come off as a liar.

You're not trying to help amateurs out, you're trying to make money. We all know this so you can stop the bs. I don't care if you don't like me. I'm trying to help users by making them not waste their money on your book..read a few posts on this forum and it's just as good as the book minus all the personal "real" stories about you.

    Another quote
"DO NOT PINCH PENNIES ON A GRAPHIC DESIGNER."
..but you've posted on this forum a couple times your extremely bad icons (draw with me), book covers (this book) that you made yourself and asked us for feedback/help to improve it….if you're telling people in your book to pay for a good designer why aren't you taking your own advice for your "app company"?

    You're a funny guy though
"I cannot tell you how many clients walk into my office each day"
Really? People you don't know somehow find your office address and just walk in and tell you their app ideas, they don't just email? I didn't know Taylor Pierce was such a big name that people would find him daily and walk in his office.

You go and mention your Draw With Me and Caption Me in the book (apparently those are ok to advertise) but then later on you start talking about an app you made called
"app X (I leave my apps out of this book because I am not selling you a product, I am teaching you to make one)."
….what?!? you just mentioned 2 of your other apps! This 2.99$ app must either not be real, or it's some Halo guide you made 3 years ago and don't want readers knowing how you actually made your money.

You're a joke. All the actual useful tips/tricks you mention in the book, you don't even apply to your own apps (the ones we've seen so far). And if you know so much and "revolutionized the app store" (lol) how come the only apps under YOUR app dev company are all extremely terrible and unsuccessful?
You got lucky a few years back making Halo/Call of Duty guides before the app store got bloated and you were the only one making them.

Congrats on turning a summary of forum posts into a book.

    Terminator,
I am not going to spend any of my time trying to validate myself to you. Frankly I don't care if you believe or disbelieve any thing about me. You are basing all of your information on what you want to think.

My office location is 3417 Wellington Drive Suite J Fort Worth Texas
My book's original cover was quite ugly, so I spent money and had the cover redesigned.
My revolutionizing the app store comment was based on a service my company provides that allows people without large funds to have apps created

This will be my last comment to you, go troll somewhere else or maybe spend some of your time doing something constructive with your time instead of trying to play Sherlock Holmes.

Please, get over yourself. He wrote a book on apps to give his opinions on the best way to make them, and he has the God given right to try to sell it and make some money. Its called the american way.

If you think his advise is bad, then write your own book and let people follow your advise instead.

Exactly. You can't make everyone happy. I can tell you I would never do something to scam anyone.

I have had people email me and tell me that they learned a ton. It is geared towards amateurs.

Yes it does, just hover your mouse over the bottom of the post. ;-)
But I agree with you. I skimmed the book and nothing really grabbed me as anything I don't know. And sure, a lot of the information can be learned for free by reading forums. But in this day age, what can't be learned for free on the internet? Some people might enjoy having a consolidated place to find that information. This thread got nasty quick.

Yeah I have no idea why everyone is just tearing into me. I did this to try and help people not become a book millionaire. There isn't a huge demand for books like this. I just figured it would be a great starting point for someone new to apps.

Sounds like a good read, sorry I missed the release date. What was the Virtual Coach all about? I googled it, but got a bunch of different links.
  • taylor202taylor202 Posts: 390Registered Users
I'll do another free date again soon no worries.

Virtual Coach was a series of interactive video game guides I developed for competitive gamers.

I didn't find the information in the book useful, but I'm sure there are people who will. There are tons of self-help info-products on the internet today. A lot of them rehash what's already out there. Some are good, some are bad. If someone really wants to know more, they will commit themselves to becoming students of this app game and learn more than whats in the book. Those who don't, will fail.

Kudos for actually putting together a product. My only comment is that you should self pubish it as a PDF and sell it for $9.99 or $4.99... or even give it away for free. =)

wow, this is starting to become a major roast.
I went through the sample chapters, and while that's not enough to
form a proper opinion of the book, it doesn't come across as horrendous as it's made out to be here.

As mochibits mentioned, there are tons of self help products out there today, and some are better than others.
The only problem I see is that there've already been a fair number of books covering this type of material which are fairly similar
but that's not a knock on the book itself.

I'll purchase the book and try and give an objective opinion here soon.

I read this book more or less at the same time as Appillionaires: Secrets from Developers Who Struck It Rich on the App Store.

I find that that Appreneurs provides more practical advice useful advice and I’ll be happy to rate the book positively on Amazon. Although it may be based on material many of us are familiar with, it is useful to see this compiled in one place. I am also sure it’s it a fantastic resource for anyone just starting in the app market.

    To be a little critical:

    - It reads like a first draft and could have some with at least 2 or 3 further drafts before publication to give it a more mature and reflected tone.
    - It’s not always clear when someone else is being quote (related to the above).
    - Chapter 13 (guest chapter) contradicts previous chapters.
    - The end is abrupt and fails to draw any conclusions.

    Arty,
Thanks for the criticisms. I agree with the guest chapter and will likely remove it.

I am already working on edition 2 that will be much more in depth and edited more thouroughy.

This was my first book so it is still a learning experience. I appreciate the feedback :)

As am I. I am gathering a bunch more developer stories to add in. Everyone seems to love them. I am also working on some affiliate programs to give readers discounts on products like AppViz
