Releasing as paid, dropping to free next day

Has anyone done this maneuver?

My next game is coming out soon and I was wondering if I can show up on the radars of all those "paid-to-free" catchers by releasing the game as $0.99 and then dropping it to Free, where it would stay.

I'd leave it a few days so it gives it time to get into any database it needs to. Also, setting the price higher (i.e. a bigger drop) seems to trigger more response from those sites (or, at least, the people reading them!)... All IMO!

Well, I really don't see any advantage in dropping it that soon (it might actually give out a bad message of despair).
The first days are the ones that you normally make more money, keep it paid, see how much revenue you can get.
Once you notice the inevitable sale drop, then make it free. I usually drop my games prices to free every two weeks, and it helps keeping the sales constant.

It's a Freemium MMO game, so I would be shooting myself in the foot releasing it as paid... unless... I guess I could turn it to my advantage and announce it to Dragon Lords players that if anyone wants a head start in the new game for the first week it's going to be available at a modest price of $4.99

I wouldnt do this because when you go free to paid or visa versa your search algorithm ranking resets

I am releasing my games directly for free..
I ll keep giving stuff for free and hopefully figure out later how to make money out of them. (even though I am currently broke.)

I don't think any "paid to free" radars exist by the way..
