Trouble formatting a date from a string

Hi. I have a date in string format, and am trying to display it in a different format. I have used the NSDateFormatter, but the results are always NULL.

Can anyone see what is going wrong in my code below?

[HTML]NSString *kuluDate = @"18 May 2012 01:00:00 +0100";

NSDateFormatter *dateFormat = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormat setDateFormat:@"yyyyMMdd"];
NSDate *formattedDate = [dateFormat dateFromString:kuluDate];

BOOL isDate = [formattedDate isKindOfClass: [NSDate class]];
NSLog(@"Date %@ a date.", isDate ? @"is" : @"is not");
NSLog(@"%@ = %@", kuluDate, formattedDate);

[dateFormat release];[/HTML]

The results from this are:

[HTML]Date is not a date.
18 May 2012 01:00:00 +0100 = (null)[/HTML]

I think you have the wrong date format specified for your date formatter.

Thanks, but can you give an example of how it should be? I have tried changing in several different ways, but everything i try still returns NULL.

Can you post what you have tried?
The format string should be the date format of your input, so to start it would be

dd MMM yyyy

I've intentionally left off the time format, so that you have to do some research yourself.

I think Custom Date and Time Format Strings will give you some good ideas as to what types of values can be used to build your format string.

D'OH!. I was working on the assumption that the date format is how I wanted the OUTPUT. That makes sense to me know.
