Please do not post the same thing multiple times. The board software automatically flags certain posts as needing moderator attention. This happens the most often for new users. I'm pretty sure this is made clear at the time you attempt to post. Posting the same thing over and over again just makes that many more posts the moderators have to weed through later. This makes us sad. Don't make us sad. If your post/thread doesn't appear, just wait a while. Don't post it again. If it hasn't shown up by the next day, then you can try again. I normally go through posts in the mornings, and try to check a few times throughout the day, but I'm not here 24/7. There will typically be a significant delay before posts are approved. Just be patient.
Hi there! I'm wondering if any of you know how difficult it would be to make a loyalty card app. There will be a QR code to scan for every time you use the loyalty card, and after x purchases you get a free product.
How long and difficult would it be to code such an app? Do I need to rent a server to communicate with the app?
Really would appreciate your feedback on this guys! Thanks a million in advance :)
The time and difficulty will depend on how confident you are with programming and Objective C. The graphics will require some time but it should be far from challenging (as there will be no animations/sprites to contend with).
You would need to rent a server for recording who buys what. The server would need a database to store users and the amount of products they've bought. The app could then calculate if they've bought enough of 'x' to show a free coupon code or something. Servers a really cheap. I would start at the bottom end with a simple shared hosting package. Shared hosting packages costs only a few dollars a month. Heck, you can even get free hosting for small projects and upgrade if it kicks off (less of a risk).
Technically speaking, you would need to know php/SQL for the server and Objective C to create the app.

I'm guessing you want a rough time scale?
Assumption figures:
Experienced Programmer: 1-2 months (Medium difficulty)
Never programmed: 4-6 months (High difficulty)
Good luck with your app,
