Please do not post the same thing multiple times. The board software automatically flags certain posts as needing moderator attention. This happens the most often for new users. I'm pretty sure this is made clear at the time you attempt to post. Posting the same thing over and over again just makes that many more posts the moderators have to weed through later. This makes us sad. Don't make us sad. If your post/thread doesn't appear, just wait a while. Don't post it again. If it hasn't shown up by the next day, then you can try again. I normally go through posts in the mornings, and try to check a few times throughout the day, but I'm not here 24/7. There will typically be a significant delay before posts are approved. Just be patient.
I've made a few promotional video's for some of the apps we've made now, but I'm always just making them look appealing to me, so I can't be sure if they're actually good or not.
And since I'm the guy who makes them, I'm going to be looking through them with rose-tinted glasses ;)
So I was wondering what makes promotional video's appealing to everyone else? What sort of features make it a great promotional video to you? What makes it stand out for you?
What's the factor that really compels you to download it? Or combination of factors? (Obviously, only if you end up downloading it lol)
That's a great question. Videos definitely help communicate the right message about a product to the mass audience.
Something that makes a video more intuitive is the background music or the narration in some cases. A soothing guitar tune in the background or a strong voice makes the overall experience natural.
The bright colors, a good contrast and animation of some sort makes it even more worthwhile. Look at videos by Google, Apple, Twitter and even Facebook. Find them on YouTube. Quite inspiring.
And in the end, all videos must definitely have a call-to-action.

I like short videos (<1 minute), and with a good quality. Better to have 2 short videos than a long one in my opinion. The soundtrack is definitely important, and same there you want a good quality (not a mic-recorded voice over for example).<br /> What hasn't been mentionned is the importance of the script. You want a good rythm to keep people watching until the end and of course you want to convey the right message: - if it's to explain a concept (kinda like a startup video), you want to pay particular attention to the script as it will make or break your video - if it's more of a demo/prom app video where you explain features you want to be sure to explain the most important ones rather than trying to list everything (people would just be confused).
Check out some good examples here: app | Startup Videos (not our work, but I really like most of them ;)
You didn't post any link though..Did you want feedback on your videos, too?
That's a really good point about the script. I've made a few demo ones that don't really follow any script and they always turn out a bit confusing when I've shown them other people.
In future I'll be making sure the script is one of the first things I focus on, to try and get the message across as easily as possible.
From what I've seen of the videos, yes definitely focus on the script/message.
I'm don't play games on my iPhone (bouh!) but really I had a hard time understanding what the Twist Me concept was that you were already telling me there was 4 levels..Show like a (very short) gameplay example and think about a quick sentence that introduces all that or intrigues me before going too deep into features.
For the wrestlers one, I think it's way too long. You don't want to get into every single feature of your app. I had to wait until after a minute to know what I was going to know with the belt. If that's the goal of the app (sharing the belt) then it should be mentionned with the first 15 seconds. Remember that people probably won't be watching the whole thing (even if it's under a minute).
