Please do not post the same thing multiple times. The board software automatically flags certain posts as needing moderator attention. This happens the most often for new users. I'm pretty sure this is made clear at the time you attempt to post. Posting the same thing over and over again just makes that many more posts the moderators have to weed through later. This makes us sad. Don't make us sad. If your post/thread doesn't appear, just wait a while. Don't post it again. If it hasn't shown up by the next day, then you can try again. I normally go through posts in the mornings, and try to check a few times throughout the day, but I'm not here 24/7. There will typically be a significant delay before posts are approved. Just be patient.

Has anyone tried this method to promote downloads via refer-a-friend?

So I'm not a app developer. I'm an entrepreneur. I'm designing an app, and having it contracted out, so I'm not sure if this feature is even possible, or the ramifications of it, but here's what I thought would be really cool, and now I'm wondering if it's possible:

Ad based, free app:
- every few uses, the ad space shows a different internal ad, saying something like: 'dont like ads? remove them now!'
- when user clicks on the ad, it goes to another screen, explaining the proposition:
- invite 3(5?) friends, by sending them an email with individually trackable links (if the system permits, from within the app) and the ads are disabled.

- the trackable links might be possible or not (I've been researching download/install tracking, and it's sorta-kinda possible with uiud, but this is being deprecated), but let's say it's not possible, or not used:
- access user's contact database to suggest friends to email to.
- possibility of users entering bogus addresses just to disable the ads -> no new users, loss of revenue from this user
- honestly referring the app to friends -> could lead to 1 or 2 more users, thus potentially doubling user base
- make the wording such that users think the app will have to be installed for them to earn the ad removal.

- if the links are trackable to installs, then this would potentially yield 3-5 new users for the price of removing ads in one app, sounds like a good deal to me. Perhaps even something like a 'game' where it shows '2 out of 3 of your friends downloaded your recommendation, do you want to invite 1 more to get the app ad free?'

It seems to me it would be a great way to utilize the user's social base to expand the app installation base, but, has anyone tried this out and it didn't work for any sort of social (people just don't want to pester friends) or technical (limitations in link tracking) concerns?

Would love to hear thoughts.
