AppPromotion in Japan

Any suggestions on how to promote an App in Japan? Picross HD is already in the top 100 puzzle games in Japan, and so far we haven't done any Japan promotions. I was looking for a site like Free App A Day or perhaps companies that could help us reach out to bloggers or app review sites in Japan. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

You are looking for completely targeted localized marketing. Ad networks allow the maximum targeting options based on location and other factors. Create banners and start using top ad networks like AppCircles, JumpTap, Facebook Ads, Google AdWords, Chartboost and Tap for Tap.

There are several App review sites that also target specified locations, but mostly, their readers are from around the world. You could try to pitch your App to AppBank.net for Japan and iPhoneinCanada.ca for Canada.

Thank you for the feedback. I'm a bit reluctant to do much more with advertising via banners as we haven't had much luck with that in the past. I am going to try and submit to AppBank to see if they will review it. It's a bit challenging given the site is in Japanese, but I'm getting some help with that.

    Hi TC,

I went to Japan last July for 3 weeks.

Even in Tokyo I did not see many people at all using iPhone / iPad's.

There were plenty of people using clam style phones!

    Gotta love those clamshell phones.
FYI, I have seen many people in Japan use iPhones and iPads.
Besides using my eyeballs, a quick Google shows iOS has a good market share in Japan.

You'd be surprised by the number of people I've seen on the trains that have both. The largest cellphone operator doesn't sell or really officially support iPhone.

    as in 'lets fighting love'?

On the flip side, they have a lot of games that don't get localized to english, so it is a bit isolated of a market - I don't know if this means there is even more competition since some of the local devs are targeting only Japan.
Example - Some popular games like Gunma's ambition (gunma no yabou) and romance/adventure games are so specific to japan the devs don't even bother to put english in it, even if they have lots of resources.

We do very well in Japan right now without doing any promotions, and I was just looking to see what suggestions people might have. I have tried down 5 or 6 app reviews sites in Japan, but it difficult going that way because I don't read Japanese.
