Please do not post the same thing multiple times. The board software automatically flags certain posts as needing moderator attention. This happens the most often for new users. I'm pretty sure this is made clear at the time you attempt to post. Posting the same thing over and over again just makes that many more posts the moderators have to weed through later. This makes us sad. Don't make us sad. If your post/thread doesn't appear, just wait a while. Don't post it again. If it hasn't shown up by the next day, then you can try again. I normally go through posts in the mornings, and try to check a few times throughout the day, but I'm not here 24/7. There will typically be a significant delay before posts are approved. Just be patient.
I recently paid for facebook install advertising. While my initial goal wasn't exactly to "rise up the charts" the app started to, and I kept getting greedier and greedier spending more money to get the highest chart position I could.
I reached up to #2 in the Entertainment Category (US store) for a day or two and of course inevitably once I stopped the ads the downloads have gone back down.
At the height of my campaign, The 21st, I spent $1320 (yes in one day!). This resulted in 628 downloads of my 99 cent app directly from the campaign. On that day the app was downloaded a total of 675 times so, about 47 "organic" downloads. Hardly a burst...but alot more than a typical day before the campaign which is 3 or 4.
Additionally the separate "lite" version of the app was downloaded 438 times that day where a typical day for that is about 40 downloads. Also the separte iPad version was downloaded 7 times (at $1.99) where that usually gets 1 download a day. So it seems at least that the word did get out about the existence of the app
Here is the chart of how things are progressing without any additional exposure.
Was it worth it? I don't know. Probably not. I do have hundreds of new users of the app (yes they were real downloads) who are sharing on their social networks and commenting within the app. I touched "greatness" at a high chart position ;) (and saw that its only worth about $400 a day if you can maintain it organically) Overall I am not sorry I spent the money as I do not beleive there is any other way to spend that amount and get the same result I did, but I guess I am sorry that the results speak for themselves. Even with a high chart position a few hundred bucks a day isn't going to sustain for very long...
You really have to understand the reddit community and the "hive mind" involved with it. Simply posting your link will probably get a downvote and a nasty "don't advertise here!" comment. If you can find a reddit community that might benefit form your app (for instance http://www.reddit.com/r/movies might benefit from my movie app) and then solve a problem users are having by posting about you app, you might get a good response.
If you are running a sale or have promo codes a good place to post that is http://www.reddit.com/r/apphookup They welcome that sort of thing and you'll get good feedback if nothing else :)
Just wanted to share some cool news with you guys. I have been using twitter to tweet @ some celebrities regarding their movies in my movie centric app. Well, just now Marlon Wayans (or more likely his publicist ;) ) used my app to tweet about his upcoming movie "A Haunted House"! He "checked in" using the app and authorized his twitter account to tweet about it. Already the bit.ly link has hundreds of clicks. Check it out! https://twitter.com/MARLONLWAYANS/status/284024542257610753
I have been intrigued with facebook mobile app install ads since they were first announced and finally got the ball rolling with what I consider a successful campaign so far. Just want to share my one day results.
In the one day my ad ran I received 4078 impressions 121 clicks 34 installs cost: $20
Now mind you this is for a free app with in app purchase and advertising. If I can reasonably hope to earn $2 per user of the lifetime of their use of my app this is clearly a successful model. I've used adwords, mobclix, admob, and several other attempts and marketing and have never had such a positive return on investment. I suggest you look into Facebook mobile app install ads!
Google maps is now available for iPhone. I, as a consumer, went to go find it in search. I searched for "Google maps". Here were the results for which of course you have to swipe through each one.
1. Google Earth (as an uninformed consumer I might download this thinking since it was displayed to me, its the new software) 2. My places for Google Maps (3rd party crap) 3. PD Maps Worldwide edition (3rd Party crap) 4. Google Latitutde (sure looks like google maps, is that it?) 5. Google Maps (the actual app I want)
