Please do not post the same thing multiple times. The board software automatically flags certain posts as needing moderator attention. This happens the most often for new users. I'm pretty sure this is made clear at the time you attempt to post. Posting the same thing over and over again just makes that many more posts the moderators have to weed through later. This makes us sad. Don't make us sad. If your post/thread doesn't appear, just wait a while. Don't post it again. If it hasn't shown up by the next day, then you can try again. I normally go through posts in the mornings, and try to check a few times throughout the day, but I'm not here 24/7. There will typically be a significant delay before posts are approved. Just be patient.
So I've pretty much tried everything when it come to promoting my apps with mixed results but here is an interesting one that is getting good results the past two days.
The free dating website www.plentyoffish.com offers a highly targeted advertising interface to advertise to their users. Best of all you can target only the users using specific browsers i.e. you can target people on their iphones. Great!
So I set up an ad for my app. Its a CPM model where you pay per thousand impressions but its pretty cheap. Yesterday I received 128577 impressions (targeting only females browsing on their iphones) I received 144 clicks with an average cost per click of $0.13 - and spent about $20.
I've been running it for two days and the good news is looking at my sales stats today (its a free app) are up 40%! (see attachment)
While this may not be "profitable" yet (I'm really just looking to push my app up the charts a bit) it seems like there are at least REAL, interested, engaged people browsing who can turn into real downloads on plentyoffish.com. I plan to tweak my ads and targeting to get costs down while increasing downloads as much as possible!
Id just like to chime back in and say apptopia is a great place to sell your app. I recently sold an app there for about 1 years worth of revenue which seems like a fair price for both buyer and seller. I know I was happy :) The support they give developers is great too.
To touch on touchmints thought of it being a sellers market, it certainly is! People want to get into apps but most don't have the technical skill, design skill, or time. If you have a moderately successful app that you want to exit for any reason, the buyers are waiting.
Did you know you can pay celebrities to tweet? There is a whole website devoted to this http://www.sponsoredtweets.com It is ridiculously expensive, however I noticed while looking at it with my mouth gaping open at the cost for a tweet that a few developers have used the services to get tweets out about their games. Check out https://app.sponsoredtweets.com/tweeters/420561-khloekardashian and her "recent sponsored tweets" It appears they paid upwards of $9000 to get a tweet from Khloe Kardashian about their iphone game. Is this a dream world? Is there any possible way they could get a return on investment from this kind of promotion?
